Winter has come to Berea! Some students have been greatly effected while others braced as the Winter Storm was anticipated to do great damage. Before the storm hit campus, President Nixon sent out an announcement on January 23rd saying that operations on Campus would be reduced all throughout the weekend. Public Safety as well as diNING were the only services active on campus Monday and Tuesday with classes and non essential labor being cancelled. On Tuesday campus was announced to be reopen the following day, allowing in person classes to be held again, with professors given the option of virtual classes. Students were concerned for their personal safety due to the heavy amount of icy terrain. The Student Government Association then addressed President Nixon and the Administration saying that snow and ice had yet to be eradicated and that the college should offer alternate solutions.

Nixon responded saying that if icy conditions make it too difficult to get to class or to labor, she encouraged students to communicate with faculty or supervisors to make appropriate arrangements or connect with classmates for notes. Finally, the Director of Facilities and Engineering responded saying that they have prepared for future erratic frosty weather such as including stocking salt supplies, monitoring forecasts, clearing exit entrances and sidewalks, and posting the designated priority route map on campus websites.

While the storm has concluded, the snow refuses to melt. College Administration and President Nixon have stressed that if the weather begins to become erratic once again, they will extended their resources to keep students safe and make sure that campus remains open.
