Berea College student Ida Schenck ('29) and Sasha Magnuson Ovech ('29) both felt the need to make a stand and protest against the presence of ICE in the surrounding Berea area. Initially, the duo were unaware on how they could make their stand, but after consideration, the duo felt that doing something to protest against ICE was better than doing nothing at all.

A few days before the protest, the "Remove the Regime" flyer appeared on social media apps that Berea students' frequent, the most popular currently being Fizz. On the day of the protest, Tuesday January 20th, the duo organized a protest on Berea College's Quad, to draw awareness and attention to ICE in the Berea community. The protest brought in surrounding students, some who made posters featuring phases such as, "No human is illegal on stolen land", "F*ck ICE, the modern slave catcher", and "Fight the Regime and F*ck ICE".

After the protest, Ida was interviewed and asked on her personal thoughts on why the protest was organized. She stated, referring to the aftermath of the protest "...People here saw it and we got to do that and to be together and build community and see that we are not alone in the way we are feeling...it actually does do something even if we feel like we aren't being heard to the point that we want to be heard". Ida ended the interview by saying that she and colleagues hope to make a coalition connected to different clubs on Berea's campus with presumed similar goals in mind that were behind the creation of the protest, awareness being brought to external factors affecting the Berea Community. Ida and colleagues also plan on continuing student led protests in the future if need be.
